Why ONA?

Why ONA?

Ohio has one of the most complete nuclear ecosystems in the country: a deep supply chain of hundreds of companies, a legacy operating fleet, world-class fuel cycle assets at Piketon, aerospace and defense innovators, nationally recognized workforce and research institutions, and a growing pipeline of next-generation nuclear and advanced manufacturing opportunities.

Yet despite this strength, Ohio has lacked something critical that nearly every other major energy sector, and many peer states, already have: a single, unified, industry-backed organization focused solely on nuclear. Other industries are strongly organized, visible, and consistently represented in public discourse, policy development, and community engagement. Nuclear, despite its scale and importance to Ohio’s economy and grid reliability, has often been represented in pieces rather than as a cohesive statewide voice. ONA exists to change that.

Why Now

Nuclear development, advanced manufacturing, energy demand, and workforce transitions are accelerating across the country. States that organize early will shape policy, investment, and supply chain positioning for decades. Ohio has the assets, but without coordination, the state risks losing ground to regions that present a more unified and visible industry presence. ONA was formed to ensure Ohio moves decisively in this moment.
